General Program Information

The Castro Valley Parent Nursery School is a non-profit, parent participation preschool enrolling approximately 50 children ages 2 years, 9 months to 5 years. The preschool operates Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am (for 2 and 3 year olds - called the "AM Session") and 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm (for 4 and 5 year olds - called the "PM Session" or pre-kindergarten). Holidays and vacations coincide with the Castro Valley Unified School District's calendar. The Castro Valley Adult School sponsors the co-op. Parents who "join" the Co-op are actually enrolled in a non-credit Castro Valley Adult School parent education class and laboratory. Please refer to the membership requirements information within this site for more information on these mandatory classes.

All adult members will be subject to a background check (Megan's Law) as well as show proof of a current, negative TB test before acceptance into the school.

Five "parent-teachers" are scheduled to work each day making the adult-child ratio at least one adult to five children (plus the director). All parents help at the preschool by working an assigned day each week under the guidance of a professional teacher-director. Parents are responsible for preparing a weekly art, craft, science project or activity and rotate through five work areas on a five week cycle. Parents at each work area are assigned defined tasks to keep the school program functioning smoothly.

The school's goal is to create a nurturing, safe, enriched environment that allows the preschool child to develop the social and emotional skills necessary for success in kindergarten.

As members of the Castro Valley Parent Nursery School, each family has Commitments and Responsibilities to fulfill.
